It is important that a honey bee hive is placed on level ground with good drainage. We started by selecting a southern facing location, excavating down about 4 inches, spreading coarse gravel for drainage, leveling, and placing large concrete blocks on which to install the hives.
Once the sight was leveled we placed the concrete blocks and re-leveled the concrete blocks by adjusting the loose gravel. The site is now ready to set the hive in place.
